Get A Professionally Written Book Blurb That Will Sell More Books

When a reader first comes across your book online, two factors will determine if they pay any attention to it – the cover and the book description. Unfortunately, while most authors will hire a professional to create their cover, very few hire a professional to write their book description.

The authors that do are usually the successful ones.

The book blurb is an essential part of the entire selling process for your book. The book cover may grab the reader’s eyes, but the description is what makes the reader think “I must buy this book!”

It doesn’t matter how amazing your cover is, how perfect the story is, how beautiful the interior looks, or how much time, money, and effort you’ve spent editing your book. If it has a boring description, readers are going to look elsewhere.

“I thought my book blurbs were pretty good, but I wanted to punch up my sales and was intrigued by Polgarus’ blurb offer, so I signed up for both my books. The tag lines alone were worth the money:

Truth Kills: The truth will set you free…if it doesn’t kill you first.
Cash Kills: There’s no such thing as free money.

I love working with Polgarus because I’m dealing with real people, not bots or coded processes. Polgarus is my one-stop shop for interior design and blurbs!”

The Benefits of a Professionally Written Book Blurb

  • A description that is designed to sell. The blurb shouldn’t just describe your story. It needs to hook the reader and make them want to go on the journey with your characters.

  • Experienced copywriter. Our copywriter is an award-winning magazine writer, copywriter, author, and copy editor. She has over fifteen years of experience writing compelling marketing copy for a variety of clients. As an author herself (both traditionally and self-published), she also brings the author’s perspective to her blurb writing and will ensure your book blurb is original, intriguing, succinct, and designed to entice readers to buy your book.

  • An error-free blurb. There’s nothing more embarrassing than putting your book up for sale and then realizing days (or weeks) later that you have an embarrassing typo in the first sentence of your description. Our copywriter is an editor with over fifteen years of experience who will ensure your blurb is error-free.

  • No excuse for procrastination. It’s easy to put off uploading your book because you don’t know what to write for your blurb. Hiring someone else to do it means you won’t have any more excuses for not selling your book!

  • We write blurbs for fiction and non-fiction books.

How Does it Work?

Our copywriter will read through the manuscript of your book, picking out the details that will grab readers attention. They will also ask you a few questions at the start to get an idea of the type of blurb you are going for, and clarify any details they aren’t sure about.

(If you have an existing blurb, it can be helpful to include it as a reference to the style of blurb you’re thinking of.)

After reviewing the information they will create a 100-250 word blurb written to sell your book that you can use on retailer websites like Amazon, or the back cover of a print book.

“Polgarus provided me with terrific blurbs on a tight-deadline. I have worked with them for a few years now and love working with their entire, dedicated and talented team.”
— Monica Bhide

FAQ

Why don’t you have a separate (cheaper) option for just rewriting my existing blurb?

From past experience, we’ve learned that in most cases there simply isn’t enough information to improve the blurb, especially if the existing blurb has a lot of problems. To ensure you get a blurb that will give you the best result, the copywriter needs work to see the full manuscript for your book.

Why can’t you just write a blurb from my synopsis?

We’ve found that even in a synopsis, there are usually important details missing about the story that can be great hooks to grab a reader in and make them want to read your book. We’ve found that the best blurb is created when our copywriter can refer to the full manuscript.

How long will my blurb be?

Standard Blurb/Cover Copy: 100-250 words, 2-3 paragraphs, suitable for full product descriptions on places such as Amazon or for the back cover of a print novel, jacket/flap copy.

How long will it take?

Our exact turnaround varies depending on how busy we are, but the first draft of your blurb will typically be ready within two-three weeks after you agree to go ahead. We can give you an exact turnaround time before you agree to go ahead.

Do you write blurbs for non-fiction books?

Yes, we write blurbs for non-fiction books. The process is exactly the same as writing a blurb for a fiction book, although the blurb will focus on selling the benefits of the book to the potential reader (and how the book will help them if they buy it), rather than trying to hook them into a story.
